Students honored for efforts in JAC Contest

Twelve students from the Blytheville School District were recognized on Sept. 20 by members of the Charlevoix Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for their accomplishments in the 2015-16 Junior American Citizens contest. The reception was at the Blytheville Public Library.

Six students are from Blytheville Elementary School, two are from Blytheville Primary School and one is now at Blytheville Middle School. Each of the students were first place winners in both the local and state competitions. The theme of the contest was “Celebrate America”.

Diamond Henry, a fifth-grader at BES last year, was awarded in poetry. Six students from both BES and BPS were recognized; fourth-grader Khia Sims for her stamp design, third-grader Joshua Sanchez for his stamp design, third-grader Diamond Hall for her poster entry and second-graders Chance Oliver for his stamp design, Kaylee Kimble for her photo essay and Hayden Culbreath for his poster.

Jayden Hubbard, a first-grader at BPS last year, was honored for her stamp design, and Selena Salazar was recognized for her poster entry.

Three students from Blytheville High School - Alex Deason, Hunter Morehead and Eric Smith - were recognized by the DAR for their banner of the U.S. Flag with hand prints drawn and the phrase “Prints of a Nation”.

For their accomplishments, each of the students was presented with a certificate by the Charlevoix Chapter members.
